General competition Rules


How many teams?

TBD based on how many teams sign up

How many weeks?

The amount of weeks that we will host the league will depend on how many teams sign up. The more teams we get, the more weeks we will have!

Fixture details

Each team will play once every week against another team. In the case we have an odd number of teams, each team will have one BYE week where they will rest. At the end of season, top 4 teams will qualify for playoffs

Match rules

  • Only registered players are eligible (Must have been signed up by the captain and have signed the waiver)

  • Each team must have a maximum of 10 players and a minimum of 7 players (At least 4 men and 3 women)

  • The organization of the matches will follow this order, we have a Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and a Mixed Doubles.

  • Before each match, each team captain must submit a team roster with each discipline filled out. Once submitted this cannot be changed in order to prevent tampering or stacking

  • Each player may only play up to two events for each round

  • The captain or the person designated as the stand in captain must always be at every match with no exceptions

ON court behavior

Only the players themselves are allowed to be on the court, furthermore only the players themselves are allowed to communicate about any disagreement at any point during the match.

Prize

We will have medals and trophies for winner. For this edition we will not have a cash prize but in future editions we may do so!

DISCIPLINARY rules

Yellow card will be issued as a warning for any minor infractions against the code of conduct

  • 3 yellow cards will lead to an one match suspension

Red card will be issued as a warning against multiple minor infractions leading to a point for the opponents

  • A second red card will lead to the player or pair being dismissed and the match forfeited

Black card will be issued for violent conduct against players or staff, threatening behavior, intentional losing, and extreme disrespect.

  • If the black card is issued, this will mean automatic disqualification of the player or pair from the current tournament and from future events. The opponents will automatically win the round regardless of the current score.

FAQ


What if I need to FORFEIT a match?

Please let us know 24 hours beforehand if you need to forfeit a match as we will also need to let the other team know that way they do not waste time and resources coming to play

  • If there is a failure to communicate this, it may result in a penalty affecting the league standings

  • Repeated violations will lead to the removal of the team without refund or credit

When will playoffs be?

Playoffs will be the week after the regular season end

Will there be a referee on the side of the court?

No, we will not have a referee by the side scoring points, this will be up to the players to count the score and call ins and outs. If there is a serious point of contestion, our staff are available to help

Will we get warm up time?

Yes, we will have a 10 minutes warm up period before the round starts. If you are late and miss the warm up period. We cannot and will not delay the match as there are other players and teams.

If we have someone injured or cannot make it to a match, can we make a sub?

Yes, as long as the replacement player has been cleared as eligible, if a player cannot make it or gets injured, a substitute can be made

Where will the matches take place?

It will take place mostly at Brooklyn Badminton Center in Ridgewood. Occasionally we will have a cancellation or change of venue. We will notify via whatsapp so please check your phones.

What if I lost something?

Do not wait to tell us. Please call or text either 6462713228 or 5167273221 if you lost it the same day. If past that, you can come to the gym to look through the security cameras. Anything lost is not our responsibility!

Can I switch teams?

No, we cannot make any adjustment once the roster is submitted

Why are there no singles?

We did not have enough interest for women’s singles unfortunately and as we did not want to have men’s singles without women’s singles we have decided to only do doubles for this season.
